Snake

Snake is the game that defined mobile gaming long before app stores existed — a fixture of early Nokia phones that an entire generation played on tiny green screens. The rules have not changed because they never needed to: steer the snake, eat the food, grow longer, and do not crash into the walls or your own tail. Our version runs in any modern browser at a comfortable starting speed that quickens gently as your score climbs, with both keyboard arrows and on-screen controls for touch devices.

How it works: each piece of food adds one segment to your length and ten points to your score. The game ends on a collision — press Start to play again and chase your best score, which is kept for this session.

Press Start, then steer with the arrow keys, WASD, or the buttons below.

How to Play

  1. Press Start Game. The snake begins moving on its own — your job is only to steer.
  2. Use the arrow keys or WASD on a keyboard, or the on-screen arrow buttons on touch devices. You cannot reverse directly into yourself.
  3. Eat the orange food to grow and score 10 points per piece. Speed rises slightly with every piece.
  4. The game ends if you hit a wall or your own body. Press Start Game to try again; Pause stops the clock whenever you need a breather.

Tips for a Higher Score

Snake is one of the oldest survivors in gaming. Our short history of browser games traces how games like this moved from arcade cabinets to phones to the web — or take a calmer break with Memory Match.
