Age Calculator

"How old am I, exactly?" sounds like a simple question until months of different lengths and leap years get involved. This free age calculator gives you a precise answer — years, months, and days — between any birth date and any other date, and tells you how many days remain until the next birthday. It is handy for forms that ask for age on a specific date, for school and sports eligibility cut-offs, for pension and insurance paperwork, and for settling family arguments about who is really older.

Who it is for: parents checking school-entry ages, HR staff verifying eligibility dates, and anyone filling in a form that asks for an exact age. Example: a sports league requires players to be under 12 on 1 September. Enter the child's birth date, set "age at this date" to 1 September, and you have an exact, defensible answer rather than a rough guess.

How to Use the Age Calculator

  1. Enter the date of birth in the first field. Use the calendar picker or type the date in your browser's date format.
  2. Leave the second field as today to find a current age, or choose any other date — a school cut-off, a retirement date, a wedding day — to find the age on that date.
  3. Click Calculate Age. The result shows complete years, then complete months, then remaining days, exactly as official forms expect.
  4. Read the extra line for the total days lived and the countdown to the next birthday.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the calculator handle leap years?

It uses real calendar arithmetic, so 29 February birthdays are handled day by day rather than by approximation. Someone born on 29 February 2000 turns exactly one day older on 1 March in non-leap years under the day-count method most forms use. Our article on how age calculators work explains leap-year edge cases in detail.

Why do some forms say my age is different?

Most differences come from the reference date: "age today" and "age on 1 September" can legitimately differ by a year. A few traditions and forms also count a person as one year old at birth. This calculator uses the standard Western completed-years method.

Can I calculate the age of something that is not a person?

Yes — the maths is the same for a house, a business, a car, or a marriage. Enter the start date as the "date of birth" and the date you care about as the second date.

Is my date information stored?

No. The calculation runs in your browser and the dates you enter are never sent to a server or saved.
